Ball de clausura de la exposición

Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo (CA2M) collaborated with Ana Locking to design a sweatshirt and T-shirt commemorating its 10th anniversary, coinciding with the closing of the landmark exhibition “Elements of Vogue. A case study of radical performance”, held through THE OVAH BALL. The exhibition, curated by Manuel Segade and Sabel Gavaldón, highlighted ballroom culture as a space for resistance, identity and collective creation.

The design is based on the evolution of an iconic image previously reinterpreted by the designer in her collection ‘The Dreamer”, a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. and all dreamers, where the slogan ‘All Power to the Dreamer’ accompanied a raised fist as a symbol of struggle and hope.

In this new collaboration, and to mark the 10th anniversary of CA2M and the 5th anniversary of Madrid Voguing Ball – Ballroom Scene, the message is transformed into ‘All Power To The Voguer’. The fist gesture is replaced by the snap —the characteristic clicking of fingers that functions as applause and celebration within voguing culture— thus integrating the symbolic language of this scene born in 1980s Harlem, with deep roots in the African-American and Latino LGTBIQ+ community.

The result, created by embroidering the garment, turns each piece into a textile manifesto that celebrates diversity, identity expression and the transformative power of ballroom culture.
