In Time Capsule, Ana Locking’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection, time becomes a narrative landscape where past, present, and future engage in dialogue. Inspired by the concept of time capsules—containers that preserve objects from the present to be discovered by future generations—the collection invites reflection on the repetition of historical cycles and the echoes between different eras. The optimism of the Roaring Twenties, marked by the economic boom preceding the Crash of ’29, is juxtaposed with contemporary uncertainty in an exercise in temporal symmetry where fashion becomes a witness to social change.

Within this conceptual universe, the shoe emerges as an object capable of traversing time, reinterpreting one of the most recognizable icons of classic footwear: the loafer. The collection offers a feminine reimagining of traditional footwear, transforming it into a high-heeled, platform silhouette that amplifies its sculptural presence. The shoe’s construction is based on a complex interplay of patterns where flaps, tassels, and overlapping pieces shift positions, moving from the instep toward the heel or reappearing in new configurations that transform its formal interpretation.

The different versions of the model explore contrasts in materials and textures, combining smooth leather with suede, embossed patterns reminiscent of lizard skin, and high-gloss finishes that interact with more matte surfaces. This mix of materials reinforces the idea of a temporal collage that runs through the entire collection, where the classic is reinterpreted from a contemporary perspective. The colors alternate between deep blacks, luminous whites, and bolder combinations featuring accents of blue, yellow, or red that introduce a graphic, almost architectural element into the design.

The advertising campaign reinforces this concept by presenting the shoes as objects preserved inside wooden boxes, evoking the act of storing pieces destined to be discovered in the future. Each pair appears as if it were an artifact rescued from time, suspended between memory and anticipation. Thus, Time Capsule transforms the accessory into a metaphor for the continuity of aesthetic gestures, reminding us that fashion, like history, always moves forward while glancing sideways at its own past.
